1 Initial Call & Site Review
You share your ideas, location, budget range, and timeline. We look at your land, access, and basic topography and talk through whether you need a custom design, a cabin kit, or a combination of both. For Kalispell and Flathead Valley projects, we pay close attention to snow, wind, and views so the home sits properly on your site.
2 Concept & Budget Range
We develop a rough layout and elevation approach that fits your priorities, then pair that with a realistic budget range for the log shell. If helpful, we also outline a high-level overall build target your general contractor can refine. This early clarity helps prevent surprises later.
3 Detailed Design & Blueprint Phase
Once the concept feels right, we move into detailed design and full log home blueprints. Room sizes, structural spans, stair placement, roof pitches, and window layouts are refined until the plan is practical for both you and your builder. Because the drawings are created with actual log construction in mind, they translate cleanly into the yard and onto your foundation.
4 Handcrafting Your Log Shell
Logs are selected, peeled, scribed, and stacked in our Eureka yard. Door and window openings are cut, roof members are fit, and the entire shell is pre-assembled and numbered. This pre-fit stage lets us correct issues before the home ever leaves the yard, saving time and headaches on site.
5 Delivery, Re-Assembly & Finish
When the shell is complete, it is disassembled, loaded, and hauled to your property. On your prepared foundation, the logs are re-assembled in sequence. Your general contractor then completes roofing, utilities, insulation, interiors, and final details. We remain available during this stage to answer log-specific questions and help your team keep the project moving.
What Is a FULL-SCRIBE Log Home?
A full-scribe log home is built by setting each full-diameter log directly on the one below it, then carving a groove along the top log so the two lock together along their whole length. Each wall is solid logs, hand-fit to one another, which is why these homes stay tight through Montana winters.
Visible corner notches, full log walls and the character of each individual tree are what people picture when they think of a handcrafted log home. Full-scribe construction gives that look, with the logs themselves doing the structural work.
SELECT
We start by selecting quality, straight logs in the right diameter range for your project. Each log is chosen for structural integrity and appearance so the finished wall looks consistent, settles evenly, and carries loads properly over time.
PEEL
The bark and outer layer are removed by hand to reveal clean wood and prepare each log for scribing and fitting. Hand-peeling protects the fibers and gives the home a natural, textured surface that takes stain well and highlights the grain.
SCRIBE
Each log is set on the wall and carefully scribed to the shape of the log below it. That scribe line is then cut to form a groove that matches the lower log. This custom-fit joint is what separates full-scribe work from milled or stacked systems that rely on gaskets, fasteners, or trim to hide gaps.
PLACE & FIT
Once the groove is cut, the log is placed back on the wall and checked along its entire length. Adjustments continue until the fit is right and contact is tight from end to end. As the home settles, these scribed joints compress and stay tight, keeping the structure strong and reducing drafts.
